A balm, not a gel
The NUI VITAL SKIN Repair Balm is made differently from our care gels. Its base is plant oils, waxes and shea butter – water plays only a minor role. The result is a firm, rich balm for areas of skin that take a lot in everyday life: hands, elbows, knees, feet.
Ground ivy comes first
Ground ivy is a native plant of the mint family. It grows along meadow and forest edges throughout Central Europe. For the balm, ground ivy is macerated in sunflower oil. That is why both are at the very top of the ingredient list: they form the base of the formula.
Noni – twice
Noni from Tahiti is in the balm twice: as fruit purée and as seed oil. NUI has the noni seed oil extracted specially from the seeds of the fruit. In this way, the Repair Balm combines a plant from the forest edge with the fruit NUI stands for.
The other main ingredients
- Calophyllum – oil from the seeds of the tamanu tree
- Shea butter – plant fat from the nuts of the shea tree
- Sea buckthorn – extract from the orange berries
- Beeswax and wool wax – give the balm its firm texture
- Essential oils of lavender, spearmint, rose geranium and carrot seed – for the scent
Made in the Bregenzerwald
The balm was developed by the NUI cooperative in Dornbirn, based on the formula of a natural cosmetics maker from Vorarlberg. It is made in small batches by Metzler in Egg in the Bregenzerwald, Austria. It comes in a jar of dark violet glass with 30 or 50 ml.
Good to know before you order
- Not vegan: the balm contains beeswax, wool wax (lanolin) and propolis.
- With essential oils: the fragrance substances they naturally contain are marked individually in the ingredient list. If you are sensitive to any of them, check the list before buying.
- Shelf life after opening: 6 months.

Good to know.
Is the Repair Balm vegan?
No. It contains beeswax, wool wax (lanolin) and propolis. Beeswax and wool wax give the balm its firm texture.
What is ground ivy?
Ground ivy (Glechoma hederacea) is a native plant of the mint family. It creeps along meadows and forest edges and flowers blue-violet in spring. In the Repair Balm it is listed second in the ingredient list, as an oil macerate.
How long does the balm keep?
6 months after opening – shown by the jar symbol with “6M” on the label. Store the jar dry and protected from light.
Does the balm contain preservatives?
Yes. Because the formula also contains water and noni purée, it needs protection against germs. We use sodium levulinate and sodium anisate for this. Both are in the ingredient list.
What do the asterisks in the ingredient list mean?
They mark fragrance substances that occur naturally in the essential oils and extracts, such as linalool from lavender. In 2026 the EU significantly extended the list of these mandatory declarations. This lets you check at a glance whether a substance you are sensitive to is included.
What is CI 75810?
A colourant from chlorophyll, the green plant pigment.
Which size is right for me?
The 50 ml jar is cheaper per millilitre (CHF 97.60 instead of CHF 122.67 per 100 ml). The 30 ml jar fits in any bag.
